Description: HyperCast is software for developing protocols and application programs for self-organizing peer networks. It supports a variety of overlay protocols, delivery semantics, and security schemes, and has a monitor and control capability. The project seeks to evolve peer networking concepts developed for application-layer networks into a complete protocol architecture that can operate on existing substrate networks, but also run directly on networking hardware. The long-term objective of the proposed project is to evolve peer network protocols and design principles into a possible follow-on technology to the Internet protocols.
