Description: While modern computer systems have become tightly intertwined with our daily lives, they are complex, failure-prone, insecure, and hard to configure and thus hardly dependable. These dependability issues have no decisive solutions but are ongoing facts of life that must be resolved regularly. For example, a system can be hardened endlessly but that does not eliminate the possibility of an intrusion. Unfortunately, most systems provide little support in the aftermath of an intrusion. This research focuses on improving dependability in software systems by providing system-level tools that help with analysis and recovery from attacks and software failures.
